Duke the Barber originally hails from Minnesota but moved to Iowa at the age of 16. He has a versatile background, having done music, performed globally, and played basketball. However, he got into barbering because he wanted to do something positive and rewarding that could make people feel good about themselves. Duke says, "Making people look their best and feel good is what motivates me to keep going every day. I know that I'm potentially changing someone's mood or day!"
Duke advises new or aspiring barbers not to do it for the money. Money will come naturally. Instead, they should enjoy the craft and have fun with it. Duke believes that barbering is supposed to be full of art and entertainment, and one should never lose the fun part.
In the next five years, Duke sees himself becoming a millionaire within his craft. He also wants to have multiple shops and his products available at all barbershops worldwide. His life motto is, "If you believe it, you can achieve it!"
If he could tell his younger self something, Duke would advise himself to have patience and not rush anything in life. He believes that good things come to those who wait, but that doesn't mean one should not work hard. Everything is a process.
